My husband brought a $200 lawn mower and already having problems. Should he spent more or is that the average amount to pay for one?

Unfortunately you get what you paid for, $200 is a real cheap mower, but it should last about 2 years before it conks out. Any mower that has a Briggs & Stratton motor will serve you well - expect to pay $450 - $600 for a mower that will last 10 years or more with regular servicing. Buy one from a Lawn mower retailer not Bunnings as I’m sure they have no idea what they are talking about there. Masport, Rover and even the Australian icon Victa will be good purchases.
Good luck with the mower.

As with anything you get what you pay for.A $200 mower will give you minimal performance.Get in the $400 to $600 range and you have a piece of lawn equipment that will last 10 years. On a normal lawn we use Honda’s.

I paid about 270 for my Torro self propelled and 2000 for my Cub Cadet. Love them both, good dependable machines, worth the money.
Definitely advise the store you bought yours from of the problems you’re having while it is under warranty. In writing as well as by phone and/or in person. Don’t “lemon laws” apply to mowers too? “squeaky wheel gets the grease” carp loud and long.

Hard to say - our old one was nearly Ā£300 ( that’s in the region of $600) and lasted over 10 years before it blew. The new one ( bought in a hurry because the other blew !) was half that - it’s been used 3 times and the wheel fell off !
Complain to the manufacturer if you only just got it. some are just jinxed.

I guess it also factors in how much lawn you have to mow?
I think a lawnmower is one of those things that you should go for quality as much as you can…

As with anything you get what you pay for. $200 is very cheap. I would avoid stores like home depot, lowes, etc. Go to a dealer. I won’t buy anything other than John Deere. They make great equipment that lasts forever. Again buy from the dealers not the bigbox stores. The bigbox stores carry the bottom of the line products or product lines. When you shop at a dealer if you ever need to have service done you have somewhere to take it.
