What Is The Best Propelled/gas Lawn Mower For Thick Lawn?

News/Articles/Questions

The walmart one I have stinks and isn’t worth it. I am looking for a good propelled gas lawnmower with a mulching and rear bag for thick grass that I don’t have to choke on the exhaust fumes, like I do with this $100 one from Walmart. In the heat it is hard pushing a mower when it doesnt want to be pushed, and when you pull the cord to start it doesnt start, tired of all that , want something better that is under $289. Appreciate all lawn fans replies.

I bought the Troy-Built one at Lowes with the electric start for $299.00 at Lowes. I love it. Best mower I have ever had. Just turn the key to start. Self propelled front wheel drive rear bagger and mulcher. Has the bigger wheels in back so it manuvers better. It has a Briggs and Stratton motor and a steel cutting deck. Make sure you dont get anything but a steel cutting deck unless you want to replace it in 2 or less years from rust.

I have a toro and have used it since 1993. What ever you do do not buy any stuff like this from home depot. They have machines made by toro for home depot. basically that mean cheaper parts they use plastic parts in stead of metal. They cut the warrenty by a couple of years also

Consumer Reports gave good reviews on the Toro’s and Honda’s. There are numereous models of both brands. I purchased the Toro last summer and enjoy it. My last Toro was a 1986 model and would still be running if the kid cutting my lawn (during my vacation) had not tried to run over a tree stump. Yep, the stump won!

I am having great luck with my Sears/Craftsman rear bagger. 4.5 HP, easy start about $250.

Snapper makes a great HI-Vac mower that bags good/and mulches. The deck on the unit has a rolled under edge on it that makes a good suction for bagging. The engine is a 6.75 Briggs and Stratton engine - which is in the range of power you need to cut/ mulch thick grass.( A 5 hp engine has trouble in thick grass.) There are other mowers that might meet your requirements , but the Snapper is known for its’ great bagging ability. You don’t have to remove the bag to mulch- so that’s a plus too. Linda
